The rain storms that hit Houston were impeccably timed if you ask me. After several whirlwind weekends in June and more to come in July, I’m so excited for every excuse to stay indoors with little to nothing to do. I hope you find some time to yourself to do the same, and if so, that these five reads entertain you.
This is it, y’all! I found this summer’s “all day, everyday” uniform—an easy, breezy Kate Spade midi dress. After choosing this gem over all other dresses in my closet a few days straight (gasp!), it hit me that this would be THE ONE this summer. I’m having a moment with all things embroidered and the bright red Mexican-inspired floral detail is so pretty on a black and white striped dress.
I’m packing it for our upcoming trip to the beach because it’s a great piece for daytime and nighttime with a simple accessories swap; flats for daytime and a wedge for nighttime. This Kate Spade novelty bag is a totally whimsical, unexpected pairing. Every girl needs a pet and since I’ve got three children pets (haha), my pets will have to come by way of handbags. I rocked a snail last summer and while I still love the little guy, he’s being replaced by the latest and greatest, the parrot cage bag.
It’s been a very long time since competitive sports have been on my agenda. High school to be exact. Unless you count golf class in college or Congressional co-ed softball in my 20’s. I’ve always talked about taking up tennis and bought a racket a few years ago, but it’s been collecting dust while I’ve been busy being pregnant/nursing my 3 kiddos back to back. A valid excuse to avoid exercise and athletics, right?!
A few months back Bret mentioned asking one of my friends to be his mixed doubles partner for a tennis tournament which was finally the fuel I needed to take up the sport. Since then I’ve been taking lessons and have officially caught the tennis bug. GASP!
I realized I only owned one tennis skirt and a bunch of old tee shirts from college for exercise purposes. You see, I’ve just never been into spending money on things like work out gear, pajamas, socks, etc. and parlay those extra funds into the dress, shoe, handbag budget. Ha! But now that I’m on the court on the reg, it’s time to invest in some new athleisure gear. After all, athlesiure has been on fire in the fashion world, so now I’ve finally got a valid reason to partake in this trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. If only cute clothing correlated to extra points on the court.
Packing for summer in the mountains can be tricky. After looking at the forecast for an upcoming trip to Aspen, I realized I would need some warmer pieces too. So the goal is to be warm, but not wintery looking. Light layers are key. You’ve got to be able to strip a layer and be ready (and cute) for whatever the mountains have in store that day.
Lucky for me, I had the chance to swing by Vince in Houston’s River Oaks District just days before hopping on the flight to Aspen. This bright blue button down is lightweight and easy to layer underneath a bomber jacket. For daytime, I wore it with denim shorts and sneakers. Evenings are still pretty casual in the mountains, so a slide sandal is totally kosher with a suede legging. This pant is classic and I’ve seen it in every Vince collection for the past few years.
So if you’re ready for a cooler summer adventure or even a shop-ahead kind of gal excited to put together a fall wardrobe, these staples are on point.
J. Crew is taking over my closet this summer. J. Crew staples are a no brainer because they are reasonably priced, well made and cute. But lately, I find myself gravitating towards non-staple, trendier prints. The newest postcard print has me feeling all things wanderlust. It feels like a cross between Gucci and Dolce and I’m having a hard time deciding on which piece I like the best. I’ve added this ruffle top, this swimsuit and this skirt to my cart. And don’t miss New Balance’s newest color that will be sure to go with everything in your closet this summer. Whether you’re shopping for staples or going to go for a postcard print, do it NOW with 25% off site wide.
I don’t know what it is about vacation that makes me feel like I have nothing to pack, no matter the destination. Do y’all find yourselves “needing” so many wardrobe provisions the second the suitcase is ready to be packed? Prior to our Colorado vacay, I hopped over to The Outnet for some last minute packing help. For those always on the prowl for a steal aka most women, The Outnet, is one of my favorite websites, offering an array of designer goods at a premium discount. Beach vacay? You need these shorts, this sandal and this little white dress and this novelty clutch! Mountains? This Colorado chic getup will suffice.
Hey y’all! I’m working remotely from Aspen this week. I can’t help but think of scenes from the movie Dumb and Dumber every time I’m here. While I’m not rocking an orange or blue leisure suit, I did wear head to toe fringe last night to chanel my inner Floyd. Sorry, digressing here.
Anyway, we’re working on an Aspen travel guide up on the blog soon, in case you’re looking for a great spot this summer. In the meantime, you can follow the festivities on Insta stories.
Today’s outfit did not make it into the suitcase because we’re mostly rocking active wear here and it’s definitely not pool weather. But this feminine, flirty off-the-shoulder dress will be packed for all other summer travel because it’s so lightweight and easy. The blue and white stripe is also a great pick for July 4th festivities paired with pops of red. Keeping this post short today guys, the mountains are calling! xoxo
Remember back in the day where Monday’s were for all things motherhood?! We’ve been a bit behind lately, but are excited to bring y’all some mom stuff today. I’ve been a loyal Dr. Brown’s user for all three kids so why not let y’all know why I love this brand for my family?! I’ve also had lots of questions over social media about baby products, including bottles, and have to say Mr. Jack is doing quite well with bottle feeding thus far. His chubby cheeks will tell you he’s not missing meals at our house. Wink, wink.
I’m still nursing but transitioning Jack back and forth from breast to bottle has been a breeze with Dr. Brown’s nipples. I’ve recently started using their glass bottles too. If we’re running around town I’ll prepare Jack’s bottle with hot water and by the time I’m ready to feed him the milk is the perfect temperature.
Dr. Brown’s has been a big part of our family for the past 5 years and my bottle of choice for all three kids. The bottles are well made, easy to clean and the vent system is known for helping reduce feeding problems and colic. Our house has traditionally been full of pink Dr. Brown’s bottles, so we did have to swap them out for blue when we found out we were having a boy!
Crop top, yay or nay? I’m still loving this trend, but have found ways to rock the crop without baring all. For starters, a high wasted denim skirt is perfect for today’s summer crop top. I’ve also worn this gem with culottes and flares. I love the idea of wearing it unbuttoned, jacket style with a tank underneath too. Did I mention this top comes with a matching scarf? I tied mine onto my bag but have also worn it on my ponytail. How’s that for little dose of fun fashion versatility to kick off your week?!
