Hey y’all! How was the weekend? I went into major spring cleaning mode over the weekend. My immune system must be really, really low because I caught the organization bug and which is very rare for this clutter queen. Instagram stories recapped my office situation. It’s crazy because just a few consecutive hours of organizing can eradicate months of pile up. But how many of us ever have that much uninterrupted time?!
Anyway….spring cleaning has me zoned in on my spring wardrobe needs. And this off the shoulder tunic from J. McLaughlin is going to be on repeat this season. I snatched it up a few weeks ago because of the bold blue and white stripe, and pretty tie sleeve. The outfit combos are endless with this top and today we’re rocking it with two different skirts.
I love this white denim pencil skirt, it feels very 80’s to me, but works when paired with a top that’s more of the moment. It’s more conservative than a lot of the denim mini’s that are hot for spring. I wore it to pick the girls up from school last week (with this tee-a scarf necklace and these flats) and received so many compliments on my outfit. It was as easy as the denim shorts or jeans I typically rock, but a total crowd pleaser.
J. McLaughlin’s multi-color striped skirt is going to be a go-to for church and luncheons. I love the unexpected mix of prints when pairing stripes with stripes. And you too, friends, can try this spring print mixing at home. Just be sure to keep your stripes in the same color family. I’m tucking my tunic today, but will also wear it out, over white denim too. Have a great week, y’all!
I’ll never regret my decision to take French growing up instead of (the much more useful in Texas) Spanish. On my first overseas trip to visit my sister in Austria, my parents and I made a pit stop in Paris. I fell in love and have been a bona fide Francophile ever since. Today’s Friday Five features all things French. Enjoy!
My mom has been hooked on French 75s since my brother served them over the holidays. See how French cocktails of all kinds are making a comeback.
Long before his red soles, Christian Louboutin made his shoes from fish scales, and it was a total fail. Read other fantastic fashion stories in Kate Bett’s memoir, My Paris Dream.
This Swedish brand partnered with French American blogger Garance Doré to make this raincoat in the most sophisticated shade of pink.
This Tibi maxi skirt is the perfect base to any special outfit. I went for a statement sleeved crop top this go round. And this guy might be the most comfortable thing I’ve every put on, it’s soft, sweatshirt-like material on the inside. Feels like you’re wearing pj’s, looks like you’re ready to take on the world. I’ve also worn mine with flares and actually think I like it best with a flared denim. That’s the thing about blogging, a lot of times my first go at an outfit isn’t my favorite. Pieces take time to assimilate into my wardrobe and this is a prime example. I like the skirt best with a white tee and statement necklace and sneakers. Although, I just came across this top which is incredible with the skirt for a dressy affair. It comes in 4 colors too!
Last week L. Avenue jumped the gun on the Saks Friends and Family event, which is happening NOW. We were just so eager to stock up on a few must haves that we missed during the Shopbop Friends and Family that we were a week early. Thankfully most of our picks are still available and of course we have added a few new things to our list. Happy Shopping!
What’s on tap for the week, y’all? I’m heading out to Round Top, Texas with some friends. I think I’m the last Texan chick who has yet to experience Round Top, it’s supposed to be pretty rad. A flea market of sorts with antiques, jewelry and treasures and trinkets galore. I’ve got my cowboy boots packed and I’m ready to explore!
I won’t be packing today’s dress for my trip, the only thing in my suitcase is denim, denim and more denim. But I have lots of plans for this fun yellow frock this spring. I haven’t been able to squeeze into anything by Self Portrait post-baby, but this yellow shirt dress was a perfect fit. It’s a lot more forgiving than the typical Self-Portrait silhouette and I love the combination of ruffles and asymmetrical details. The open back is tastefully done and adds a little wow factor. I styled this dress with these neutral sandals, but I think you can dress it up even more with these sandals or even make it a casual day dress with these sneakers.
I’m having a moment with yellow–spring’s IT color, and linked some of my favorite yellow numbers below.
In my world, wedding season seems to be year-round. Still, with back-to-back weddings coming up, they’re more on my mind than ever. This Friday, I’ve rounded up five links on one of my favorite festivities:
These iconic dresses still influence those of today. Whose your favorite?
Laura Mercier’s caviar stick is perfect to tuck into your clutch for a reception make-up touch up. But it now; the best colors sell out fast.
Ahhh springtime, you’re finally here to stay! I’m in full on spring/summer accessory mode right now. I love refreshing wardrobe staples with new spring accessories. And you won’t break the bank with these white earrings, these mirrored sunnies, and these loafers. Happy spring, y’all!
Hey, hey! Earn up to a $700 gift card with code SAKSGC17. That adds a little something exciting to this hump day, doesn’t it!
Denim is everywhere this Spring and this white denim skirt is the perfect addition to my closet paired with this top and my new go to blue sandals. Staying true to the bell sleeve trend this Alice and Olivia stripe number paired with these “appropriate” length shorts would be super cute for those warmer days ahead. Im also loving these shorts and these bright ones as shorts are perfect for chasing those little ones around come Summer. For those who loved my pink Trina Turk maxi dress from this post (and pictured above), you can snag it now at a discount. Im going to take the this opportunity to grab a few sandals for Spring. I like this pair, this pair and this one. Hmmm decision, decisions.
A few weeks back I pulled off the surprise of all surprises and threw a 40th birthday party in Vegas for my hubby. Packing for Vegas was a breeze because the hubs loves me in black. Contrary to my bold color tendencies, I found some festive frocks that were Vegas approved.
For night #1 I went with a sexy and sophisticated little Cinq a Sept number. This isn’t college spring break Vegas attire, y’all! Although, I did actually venture to Vegas for spring break my junior year at Ohio State. Let’s just say this dress didn’t make the cut for cocktails served in large fish bowls. Ha. I love the silhouette of this dress and the delicate straps.
I recently discovered Malone Soulieres shoes at Tootsies and am going to go big and say this line will be the next big thing. If it isn’t already. I’ve only seen the collection at Tootsies and online here. When I splurge on a shoe I typically go with classic shoes that I know I’ll wear season after season. This is the first statement shoe I’ve gone all out for and I’ve worn this pair with skinny jeans and a white v-neck tee and they make me just as happy.
For night #2 For my second night in Vegas I went for grown-up bedazzled. Seriously, this dress is destined for fun. I love the mock turtle neck and cap sleeve and a little understated lace is the perfect pair for embellishments galore. Dancing is mandatory in this dress. And that we did!
p.s. In case you’re wondering what goes on behind the scenes during my shoots, this particular day I decided it was totally appropriate to channel my inner figure skater, attempting triple axels on pavement. Not no graceful. Thank goodness my self awareness is low.
Springing forward took me by total surprise this year. My sleep cycle is finally up to speed, though, and I’m very much looking forward to dinners during the last hours of daylight. Here’s five links for your weekend reading pleasure:
